Power Skating

Better skating for any sport!

The philosophy of our Power Skating program at CCA is to improve and refine pre-existing skills and develop new skills away from the hockey or ringette game. We focus on making sure that once you remove the game play, strategy, and stick handling, there is a strong foundational skater. Particular emphasis is put on posture, shoulder placement, control, edge work, balance, and efficiency of movement.

This is not a learn to skate class. Skaters must have prior skating experience. This program is for children ages 7+ or younger upon approval from our coaching staff. There is only one Power Skating class, so skaters in this program are a wide range of ages and skill levels. All skaters will have the opportunity to work through our skills list to the best of their ability, some faster than others, but with equal opportunity.

Please ensure you view this program's schedule and pre-requisite skills prior to registering.

Pre-Requisites

Skaters must have prior skating experience. Skaters should be able to:
  • Confidently skate forwards and backwards with gliding strides (not shuffling or stepping)
  • Stop fully and confidently
  • Perform forwards crossovers and two foot turns
  • Balance on one foot

Completion of our Hockey Buddies program, Learn to Skate program, or equivalent skill level is required. Registration in a current hockey or ringette program is recommended.

  • Control and balance
